How do I use Font Libraries in FontAgent Pro? |

|
Working with Font Libraries
Each FontAgent Pro library is a separate, physical collection of font files. Libraries can be located in any location on your hard drive. This allows you to keep fonts from different foundries or clients separate from each other. When you are performing work for a specific client or project, activate only the appropriate library and you can be sure you are using the correct fonts. Note: Although FontAgent Pro prevents you from duplicating fonts in a single library, you can store the same or similar fonts with the same name in separate libraries. Using Libraries to Keep Font Files Separated and Organized If you work primarily with your own fonts and do not receive fonts from outside sources, it is easier to use FontAgent Pro’s default behavior, which organizes your font collection in one library. On the other hand, using multiple libraries can help you ensure that you use exactly the right fonts, especially if: • You receive fonts from outside sources • You prefer to separate your client’s fonts from your own • You need to use specific fonts for certain projects Note: If you choose to use a single library, you can still use sets to logically associate and organize your fonts. For many designers, it is fairly common to have some fonts that are very similar to each other. Font foundries often distribute similar fonts with the same name. And designers often tweak fonts, changing kerning data or modifying individual characters to create subtle differences, but often fail to rename the font. By using libraries and sets properly, you can easily determine which font is used for a specific project or client. In addition, you can use FontAgent Pro to export the library for delivery to a print service bureau to ensure they are using the correct fonts for your documents. Creating Libraries After you enable multiple libraries in FontAgent Pro, you can create new libraries. To create a new, empty library into which you can import fonts, either click the New Library icon in the Toolbar or select New Library from the File menu. A dialog box appears and prompts you to name the new library and select a location. You can create libraries on any local (attached) volumes including removable drives. Deleting Libraries Deleting a library or deleting fonts from a library permanently deletes the selected fonts from the hard drive. To delete a library, follow these steps: 1 Select a font, group of fonts or library 2 Click the Delete button in the toolbar or press the Delete key. 3 A dialog box appears asking you to confirm that you wish to delete the selected fonts. 4 Deleting from a library perma¬nently deletes the selected fonts from your hard drive. Copying Libraries FontAgent Pro lets you copy fonts between libraries or copy entire libraries. Duplicating a Library Duplicate a library by clicking the New Library icon in the Toolbar or by selecting New Library from the File menu, and then dragging and dropping a library onto the new library. When copying, FontAgent Pro imports fonts into the target library and optimizes them, ensuring that it copies only unique, complete fonts. Copying Fonts between Libraries To copy fonts between libraries, drag and drop them from one library to the other. You may find it helpful to click the Libraries tabs in both work areas to make it easier to drag fonts to and from different libraries. When copying, FontAgent Pro imports fonts into the target library and optimizes them, ensuring that it copies only unique, complete fonts. You can choose to delete the library or fonts from the existing library by using the Delete original fonts after importing option in the Import sheet. |
