How do I import and manage Mac OS X System Fonts? |
Note: You must be an authorized Administrator of your Macintosh to manage System fonts
.
To Start Managing System Fonts When Mac OS X starts, it automatically activates fonts stored in specific system folders. To be able to activate and deactivate these fonts in FontAgent Pro 4, follow these steps: 1. Select Preferences from the FontAgent Pro menu 2. Check Manage System Fonts 3. Authenticate using your administrative user name and password Enabling this option imports all System fonts into FontAgent Pro, except fonts in the /System/Library /Fonts folder. FontAgent Pro moves managed System fonts into new folders called Fonts (Managed), located in the same directory level as the original Fonts folder. This prevents Mac OS X from activating these fonts and acts as a convenient backup for your font files. FontAgent Pro automatically creates a top-level set named System Fonts with subsets for each original System Fonts folder. You can now activate and deactivate any of these System fonts. Important Rules for Managing System Fonts Here are some rules to follow when managing System fonts: • Use this option only if you want to deactivate some System fonts, or use Type 1 PostScript versions of common fonts such as Baskerville, Copperplate, Futura, Gill Sans, Goudy, Helvetica Neue, Optima, and Times New Roman . • After importing System fonts, enable FontAgent Pro’s auto font activation so fonts required by applications are automatically activated. • Do not import System fonts if multiple users log in to the computer, since the fonts will only be available to the user who imported them. To Stop Managing System Fonts If you need to stop managing System fonts in Mac OS X, select Preferences from the FontAgent Pro 4 menu and uncheck Manage System Fonts. This removes System fonts from FontAgent Pro and restores them to their original locations in the Mac OS X Finder. |
